Iran's gas condensate exports from the giant South Pars Gas Field in the Persian Gulf witnessed a considerable hike in terms of volume and value in the second Iranian month (ended May 21), the head of customs at Pars Special Economic Energy Zone said.
Ahmad Pourheidar added that over 1.06 million tons of gas condensates, worth $1.09 billion, were shipped from PSEEZ’s customs during the period," IRNA reported.
"The number indicates a 149% year-on-year increase in terms of value," he said.
The official noted that besides the condensate, the zone's exports of crude and non-oil commodities, including methanol, propane, polyethylene, sulfur, urea, styrene and ammonia, amounted to $753.7 million during the month.
Pourheidar said total exports from the zone, including gas condensates and non-oil products, which amounted to 1.59 million tons, worth $1.84 billion, showed a 4% increase in terms of volume and 72% hike in terms of value.
On the main destinations of Iranian exports, the official said the commodities are mostly sent to Asian countries like China, Japan, South Korea, India, Indonesia, Turkey, the UAE and Kuwait as well as Egypt in Africa.
Pourheidar said the rising trend of exports is expected to continue, as new phases of South Pars Gas Field come on stream. Condensate output is slated to reach 1 million barrels a day upon the launch of all South Pars phases.
South Pars is the world's largest gas field shared between Iran and Qatar in the Persian Gulf. The giant deposit, which is being developed in 24 phases, provides about two-thirds of Iran's natural gas output.
The field holds an estimated 51 trillion cubic meters of gas and some 50 billion barrels of gas condensate.
PSEEZ was established in 1998 in þý Bushehr Province, which includes Asalouyeh, utilizes South ýPars oil and gas resources, and promotes commercial activities in oil, gas and ýpetrochemical industries.
Some 16 petrochemical complexes are active in Asalouyeh with an annual output of 20 million tons. A majority of the zone's products are exported.
