Petroiran's DCI Vying to Develop Oil, Gas Projects

DCI played a major role in conducting drilling projects, supplying drilling sets and providing production services in offshore Salman and Abouzar oil and gas fields in the Persian Gulf

In line with efforts to fast-track the development of oil and gas fields, Drilling Company International is set to play a key role in the development of five massive hydrocarbon reserves, managing director of the company said.

"DCI, a subsidiary of Petroiran Development Company, has acquired extensive experience by joining hands with multinationals like Norway's Statoil, France's Total, Royal Dutch Shell and Italy's Eni," Fazel Jamalzadeh was quoted as saying by Shana, the National Iranian Oil Company's news agency.

According to the official, DCI has submitted a proposal to develop five oil and gas fields, namely Siri in the Persian Gulf, Mansouri and Susangerd in Khuzestan Province, Danan in Ilam Province and the oil layer of the giant South Pars Gas Field in the Persian Gulf.

"The firm played a major role in conducting drilling management projects, supplying drilling sets and providing drilling and production services in offshore Salman and Abouzar oil and gas fields in the Persian Gulf," Jamalzadeh said.

"The first production phase of South Pars Gas Field was carried out with the help of DCI. It is also capable of participating in overseas projects utilizing its advanced equipment and skilled personnel."

The official noted that domestic enterprises, most of which lack much-needed financial resources, should be given the same advantages as foreign ones so that they launch joint ventures by teaming up with international firms.

"Talks are underway with some Asian companies to attract funds," he said, adding that the protracted negotiations have led to signing a few memorandums of understanding.

Jamalzadeh noted that NIOC's Reservoir Management Committee is expected to announce its views on DCI's proposals soon, based on which the company will start operations.

The firm has already been supplying and maintaining drilling sets and providing services as required for southern oil and gas fields.

"The company possesses two modern drilling rigs, DCI-1 and DCI-2, one of which is completing a drilling operation in Forouzan Oilfield in the Persian Gulf, and the other one is being overhauled with the help of domestic experts in Iran Shipbuilding and Offshore Industries Complex Company's repair yard that can save millions of dollars for the country," Jamalzadeh said.

"The cutting-edge cyber rigs categorized as Super M2, which belong to Petroiran Development Company, are capable of drilling at a depth of 300 feet and can be utilized to drill oil and gas wells up to a depth of 7,000 meters," he said.

The rigs have the ability to move 15 and 9 meters in length and width respectively.

Underscoring the satisfactory performance of the rigs in setting records in the South Pars Phase 20 development projects, Jamalzadeh reiterated that the rigs are ready to start drilling in the oil layer of the South Pars region.

"The company manages and provides different technical services in house or through local and international reputable service companies for different drilling projects," he said.

DCI was established in 2009 as the executive subsidiary of PEDCO to provide offshore drilling rigs and services.

Employing latest technologies and state of the art equipment, DCI has expanded its offshore drilling competency. It has established subsidiary companies specialized in providing drilling services by utilizing reputable domestic and foreign companies through joint ventures, share acquisition and other arrangements.

Petroiran Development Company, a subsidiary of NIOC, was established in 1997 with the approval of the National Iranian Oil Company's board of directors to implement oil and gas projects. It was registered in Jersey Island, England.
