Berlin can help Tehran expand its power and energy ties with neighboring and regional states.
Farhad Yazdandoust, an Energy Ministry advisor for international affairs, made the statement in a meeting with a delegation from Germany's Federal Ministry of the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety in Tehran on Monday.
According to the official, the two sides have had long-term cooperation in power projects and Iran is seeking to collaborate with a reliable foreign partner to extend its foothold in foreign markets.
"The Energy Ministry is willing to launch joint ventures with Germany in water and power sectors, including renewables, wastewater treatment and climate change issues," Yazdandoust said, adding that joining hands with German firms can help the ministry have a stronger presence in regional and international markets.
The official also called for establishing a technical committee to pursue shared objectives.
Yazdandoust noted that the two sides reached preliminary agreements to embark on a joint venture to implement a sewage system in the eastern city of Mashhad in Khorasan Razavi Province.
"Our experts can draw on Germans' expertise in constructing wastewater treatment plants," he said, noting that the German energy delegation will present their proposal on dealing with water issues related to Zayandehroud river in Isfahan.
“Germany’s investments in solar power plant projects in Kerman and Hamedan indicate the goodwill of the country for raising energy ties with Iran,” Michael Klor-Berchtold, the European country’s ambassador to Iran, said last week in Tehran while visiting Energy Minster Reza Ardakanian.
He added that Germany is ready to develop energy ties with Iran by focusing on water and solar collaboration
Klor-Berchtold underscored Iran’s “good” potential for investment and export of electricity to its neighboring states, adding that Germany can invest in a wide range of energy fields, especially solar energy, in Iran.
Germany accounts for about 60% of investments made by European Union states in Iran.
