SP Phase 22 Platform on the Way

South Pars offshore gas platform 22 was successfully loaded on a domestic 20,000-ton barge in line with plans to fast track gas production from the giant joint field, an official of Iran Marine Industrial Company, also known as SADRA, said.

"The fully domestically-manufactured platform, weighing 2,300 tons, will be transferred to its location in the Persian Gulf, following which the installation operation will commence," Ali Zarei was also quoted as saying by IRNA on Friday.

According to the official, SADRA is manufacturing seven other platforms for phases 23, 24, 14 and 13. Pointing to financing challenges, Zarei said, "If the much-needed funding is provided and contractors are paid their dues, the project to complete platforms 23 and 24 will be undertaken ahead of schedule."

Iran hopes to complete all South Pars phases by March 2019, a target that officials say requires an investment of $20-30 billion.

SADRA was founded in 1968 as a small ship repair yard in Bushehr. Since then, it has established itself as a leading shipbuilding and ship repairing company in Iran. It is also active in offshore oil & gas development. The company, which is a sister company of Iran Shipbuilding and Offshore Industries Complex Co., specializes in building ships, docks and floating oil rigs.
