More than 119 billion cubic meters of gas was pumped into the national gas network in the March-December period, nearly 13 percent higher than the same period last year, deputy of the National Iranian Gas Company (NIGC) Abdol-Hossein Samari said.

Samari added that gas condensate production reached 19 million cubic meters (mcm) in the nine-month period, one mcm more than the same period a year ago.

Also from March 21 till December 21, production of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) reached 1.4 million metric tons, up from 630,000 metric tons in the same period last year, with methane production at 1.1 mmt in that period, almost level with last year’s output over the same period, Shana news agency reported Friday.

The official said that 2.7 bcm of gas was supplied to Bid Boland, and 2.3 bcm to Fajr Jam refineries via the 5th national gas pipeline in the March-December period. Daily gas supply to the two refineries had a 4.5 mcm increase in the past nine months compared to the same period last year.

Iran holds the world’s second largest natural gas reserves and the fourth-largest proven oil reserves.

It holds 17 percent of the world’s proven natural gas reserves and more than one-third of OPEC’s reserves. The South Pars gas field in the Persian Gulf is estimated to hold nearly 40 percent of Iran’s gas reserves.
