South Pars Gas Output Tops 1 tcm Since 2002

Iran has produced over 1 trillion cubic meters of natural gas from South Pars Gas Field in the Persian Gulf since the start of production in 2002, the managing director of South Pars Gas Complex, operator of the mega gas project, said.
"South Pars refineries have injected 900 billion cubic meters of sweetened gas into Iran Gas Trunkline (IGAT) in this period," Masoud Hassani was also quoted as saying by Mehr News Agency on Tuesday.
According to the official, the complex has also delivered 21 bcm of gas to petrochemical company since the field was developed by commissioning Phase 2 in December 2002 to produce 28 million cubic meters of gas per day.
Pointing to output from South Pars 4th Refinery, Hassani said, "IGAT-5 has received 118 bcm of sour gas from the refining complex in the period."
Asked about other products, he said SPGC has exported 4.260 million tons of sulfur to global markets since 2002.
Attaching great importance to ethane production, he noted that there is a substantial need for the strategic product in Jam, Kavian, Morvarid, Pars and Arya-Sasol petrochemical plants, that is why production boost is on the agenda.
In the fiscal 2016-17, gas production from South Pars increased to 520 million cubic meters per day, which is more than 150 million cubic meters per day compared with the previous year.
South Pars is the world's largest gas field, shared between Iran and Qatar, covering an area of 3,700 square kilometers of Iran's territorial waters in the Persian Gulf. It adjoins Qatar’s North Field, which measures 6,000 square kilometers.
Iran is developing the mega gas project in 24 phases, of which 19 have already gone on stream. According to a report, the completion of undeveloped phases, namely 11, 13, 22, 23 and 24 require an investment of $20-30 billion.
The country signed a contract with French oil and gas major Total last month to develop Phase 11 of South Pars in collaboration with China's state-owned CNPC and Iran's government-controlled Petropars. Officials say natural gas production from South Pars will increase to 700 million cubic meters daily in two years.
