More than 50 million cubic meters per day (mcmd) of gas is produced in the offshore part of Phase 12 in the South Pars field in the Persian Gulf, director of the Phase 12 refinery said, Moj news agency reported.
Jamshid Sourani said, “Close to 70 mcmd of gas is produced in Phase 12, of which, 50 mcm is supplied from the offshore part.”
More than 141 million man-hours has been spent on Phase 12, he said, adding that 121 million at the onshore part, 15 million at the offshore part, and 5 million man-hours were spent on drilling operations.
The Phase 12 contactor was required to carry out 51 percent of operations by domestic workforce. However, Iranians have successfully undertaken 71 percent of operations as a result of foreign companies’ restrictions to operate in the country’s oil and gas projects due to sanctions.
The US imposed tough sanctions on Iran to curb the country’s nuclear program which it claims is geared to military use. Iran insists it is peaceful. Iran and world powers were unable to reach a “comprehensive deal” by a November 24 deadline and extended the talks for seven more months.
Platform A in Phase 12 is operational with 25 mcmd capacity, and Platforms B and C are due to be completed by late December. Phase 12 is South Pars’ largest phase in terms of volume of activities as well as investment and production level. The field is estimated to contain 14 trillion cubic meters of gas and 18 billion barrels of gas condensate.
