Construction work on the third power transmission line between Iran and Armenia is underway. The line will boost electricity exchange between the two countries by four times to around 1,200 megawatts once completed, IRNA reported, citing a statement by Armenia's Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources. According to the statement, equipment for the construction of power towers in Armenian territory has been provided. Moreover, out of 706 towers, 121 have been installed and the foundation for the rest was dug in 2016. Iran is connected to Armenia through two electricity lines. The two countries have different seasons of peak electricity demand. Iran exports electricity to Armenia in winter and imports it when domestic demand rises in summer. According to reports, the Export Development Bank of Iran is providing 77% of the funds for building the transmission line.
