A petrochemical plant constructed near the city of Mahabad will be commissioned within the next two months, the mayor of Mahabad Jafar Katani told Azerbaijani reporters in Iran on November 27.
The plant’s output will meet not only the demands of the city of Mahabad, but also four neighboring provinces, the official was quoted by Trend as saying.
The petrochemical plant is being constructed by a private company. Raw material will be delivered to the plant via the railway running from Kermanshah province to West Azerbaijan province.
The plant is projected to produce 300,000 tons of heavy polyethylene and linear and light polyethylene per year.
Katani added that a special economic zone will be created in Mahabad in the near future, through which Iranian products will be exported to the neighboring countries.
Mahabad is the largest industrial center in West Azerbaijan Province.
