Region 1 of the national gas distribution plan supplied 21 billion cubic meters (bcm) of gas across Iran during the March-November period, a 9.4 percent increase compared to the same period last year, director of the Region 1 said, Shana news agency reported Saturday.

Abdol-Hossein Koutaki said 5.4 bcm of gas from Region 1 was supplied to the Bid Boland Refinery over the past eight months. The volume has increased by 18.7 percent compared to the same period last year.

Region 1 includes 2,200km of pipeline. It stretches from Khuzestan Province to Kohgiluyeh and Boyer-Ahmad Province in the southwest.

More than 8.4 bcm of gas was supplied to Aghajari, Koranj and Koupal oil fields in the oil rich Khuzestan Province and 7.2 bcm among other regions. Around 25 million cubic meters of natural gas liquids (NGL) is distributed via the Region 1 pipeline every day.

Koutaki stressed that leak detection tests have been implemented on 1,800 kilometers (km) of pipeline in Region 1. Additionally, cleaning and inspecting operations, known as 'pigging', have been carried out on 535km of pipeline. Pigging is done without stopping the flow of the product in the pipeline.
