The National Iranian Tanker Company’s board of directors appointed Sirous Kianersi as the company’s new managing director on Saturday. According to IRNA, Kianersi will replace Ali Akbar Safaei, who held the post since 2013. Under Safaei's watch, NITC's tanker fleet turned into the world’s largest, the company prepared a five-year strategic roadmap aiming at diversifying sources of revenue and many offshore services companies were established as subsidiaries. Kianersi, who was also appointed as the representative of the Civil Servants Pension Fund in NITC, was earlier managing director of Pad Energy Development Company, a subsidiary of CSPF, in addition to serving in the National Iranian Oil Company. According to Tanker Shipping & Trade journal, the company plans to seek a stock exchange listing on the local exchange and later overseas in an effort to raise cash for a badly-needed tanker fleet renewal. NITC currently has a fleet of 69 tankers, all but three of which are crude carriers.
