Phase 1 of Iran’s first polystyrene park will go on stream in two months in the southern city of Asalouyeh, Bushehr Province, National Petrochemical Company’s production control director said. “The country’s first polystyrene park will include six units, two of which, namely Arman-e-Entekhab and Takht-e-Jamshid, have made 98% physical progress,” Ali-Mohammad Bosaqzadeh was quoted as saying by IRNA on Friday. Polystyrene is a synthetic aromatic polymer made from the monomer styrene. It is one of the most widely used plastics, the scale of its global production being several billion kilograms per year. Bosaqzadeh added that the rest of the units are planned to become operational in two years. The polystyrene park is an effort to complete the petrochemical value chain. The official also said that a centralized zone will cut production costs for a wide range of products made by polystyrene. Other polystyrene production plants include Sadaf, Jam and Dalahou which are at 40%-60% completion.
