Oil Minister Bijan Namdar Zanganeh and his Armenian counterpart Levon Yolyan discussed an agreement on exporting natural gas to Georgia through Armenia in a meeting in Tehran on Tuesday. “Iran has signed a contract with a Georgian gas company, which will hopefully be finalized, in cooperation with Armenia, by March 2017,” Zanganeh was quoted as saying by IRNA. According to the deal, Armenia has proposed the establishment of a joint venture to arrange gas exports through that country. Zanganeh noted that due to some problem in a gas pipeline from Russia to Armenia, Yerevan has requested to temporarily receive more gas from Iran. “Iran has increased gas export to Armenia from 1 million cubic meters per day to 3.5 million cubic meters,” Zanganeh said. Furthermore, gas export to Armenia will increase to 3 mcm/d from late 2018, the minister was quoted as saying by the state news agency.
