Abadan Refinery’s crude processing capacity has reached 364,000 barrels per day, the refinery's managing director Habibollah Abolhosseini said. He added that the refinery's output is contingent upon domestic demand, IRNA reported. “The refinery's output can be increased to 450,000 barrels a day. It was raised to 435,000 bpd in the last Iranian year that ended in March." The cooling system of the refinery’s industrial wastewater treatment plant is due to go on stream by March 2017 with a $9-million investment. When the modern cooling system starts work, water consumption from the nearby Arvand River will be cut significantly. He added that the refinery’s sulfur production unit has resumed operations with new investments worth $29 million. A flare gas recovery unit is also being constructed with at an estimated cost of $1.3 million.
