Iran will not resume the export of petrochemicals and polymer to Turkey before the security situation in the country is back to normal, a member of the board of the Iranian Oil, Gas and Petrochemical Products Exporters’ Association said. “Following the recent upheaval in Turkey, petrochemical exports have come to a halt,” Mehdi Sharifi-Niknafs was also quoted as saying by ILNA. Dozens of people were killed and thousands were arrested in the violence that erupted on Friday after a faction of the Turkish armed forces tried but failed to seize power in a coup and depose the government of President Recep Tayyip Erdogan. Three border-crossings, namely Bazargan, Sarv and Razi were closed shortly after the coup attempt, but they have since reopened, according to reports. Niknafs added that most petrochemical exports to Turkey are made under monthly contracts. Polymers account for the lion’s share of Iranian exports to the northwestern neighbor.
