Iran's Petroleum University of Technology (PUT) and Montan University of Austria signed a MoU on Monday to build scientific and research cooperation, Shana news agency reported.

The two universities explored areas of cooperation in a meeting in Tehran that was attended by the Austrian ambassador.

President of the PUT Abdolnabi Hashemi said, "The National Iranian Oil Company (NIOC) has tasked the PUT with studying the possibility of establishing five new oil storage units. The Austrian university can contribute to laboratory and engineering studies of the project."

According to the instruction of the Oil Minister Bijan Namdar Zanganeh, PUT was required to select a foreign partner to conduct studies on storage units.

PUT has ties with French and Australian universities, he said, adding that the new agreement "will hopefully pave the way for further cooperation."

Established in 1939, PUT is a major university in the oil sector. It has four faculties in Tehran, Abadan, Ahvaz and Mahmudabad cities and has long strived to educate specialists who can help satisfy the needs of oil industry.
