n Iran-Russia workgroup dealing with parts, equipment, repair and maintenance of gas transmission and distribution pipeline network held a meeting on Monday in Tehran for discussing 11 gas-related issues.

“In the meeting, representatives of National Iranian Gas Company and the Russian Gazprom company discussed 11 issues, including compressed natural gas, liquefied natural gas, gas turbo compressor’s repair and maintenance systems, turbine assessment laboratory and modern technologies of gas leak detection,” Saeed Pakseresht, NIGC’s research and technology director, was quoted as saying by Shana.

Gazprom is a large Russian company active in geological exploration, production, transportation, storage, processing and sales of gas, gas condensate and oil as well as generation and marketing of electric power.

The official noted that Gazprom has expressed eagerness to use Iran’s experience in LNG field as it plans to increase the fuel's use in transportation.

“In view of Russia’s appropriate abilities in repair and maintenance systems of gas turbo compressors, we introduced Iranian turbine manufacturers to Russian companies to connect the two sides and meet NIGC’s needs,” Pakseresht said.

He added that Iran, in cooperation with Russia, is currently setting up a specialized laboratory for assessing turbines in the country.

Stressing that the two countries have entered into negotiations on boosting scientific and technical cooperation in manufacturing key equipments of LNG industry, Pakseresht said Russian experts are due to be introduced to Iran for further cooperation.

The workgroup’s next meeting is likely to be held in Russia to follow up the issues.
