Some 14 petrochemical projects are to go on stream in the current Iranian year (started March 20), which will raise Iran’s overall petrochemical output by about 7 million tons, managing director of National Petrochemical Company said on Saturday.
“The completion of 55 semi-finished petrochemical plans is another priority of NPC,” Marzieh Shahdaei was also quoted as saying by Shana.
"The company not only helps accelerate the development of plans in need of finance, but also alleviates the financial and technological problems of other plans," she said.
The NPC chief noted that with an increase in South Pars Gas Field’s output, more feedstock will be available for petrochemical complexes, stressing that by supplying feedstock, non-operational units will go on stream and increase the industry’s production capacity. Underscoring European and East Asian companies’ interest in financing petrochemical plans in Iran, Shahdaei said, “Those companies, which had good relations with Iran in the pre-sanctions period and were forced to abandon the country due to international sanctions, have expressed readiness to return and cooperate in projects that are underway.”
The official stressed that negotiations with foreign companies on technology transfer and upgrading Iranian complexes are underway.
“Petrochemical Research and Technology Company [a subsidiary of NPC] can cooperate with foreign companies to receive technical knowhow,” she said.
Noting that NPC helps the private sector complete semi-finished projects, Shahdaei said the development of Mahshahr Petrochemical Special Economic Zone and a petrochemical park in Jask, a port city in Hormozgan Province, are on NPC’s agenda.
