President Hassan Rouhani has submitted a bill to the parliament on establishing a free trade and industrial economic zone in the southern port of Jask, Hormozgan Province. The port is situated on the Gulf of Oman and has direct access to the Indian Ocean. The bill, initially proposed by the secretary of the Center for Free and Special Economic Zones, was approved by cabinet of ministers in their meeting on August 27, 2014. The measure is taken with the aim of eliminating the cumbersome regulations in the field of trade, as well as boosting remote areas in Iran.
