Bandar Abbas Oil Refining Company received the European Union's HSE Management Certificate granted by the European Association for Green Management in cooperation with the Iranian Society for Green Management, according to the company's CEO.
"The company's HSE role modeling evaluation was based on seven criteria and 20 sub-criteria, and sought to assess the approach adopted by the firm's HSE department," Hashem Namvar was quoted as saying by IRNA at a meeting with evaluators of both societies on Monday.
A wide variety of community measures in the field of safety and health at work have been adopted on the basis of Article 153 of the Treaty on the Functioning of European Union. The first formal HSE management approach was introduced in 1985 as a reaction to several catastrophic accidents (like the Seveso disaster and the Bhopal disaster).
The management system defines the principles by which companies conduct operations worldwide with regard to health, safety and the environment.
Its main objectives include prevention of incidents or accidents that might result from abnormal operating conditions, reduction of adverse effects arising from normal operating conditions, preventing explosion and release of harmful substances into the environment or workplace and reducing a company’s environmental impact under normal operating conditions.
Regulatory requirements play an important role in all approaches and consequently, the strategic implementation of HSE regulations and the use of past experiences to improve procedures in future were also examined.
The company's approach was scrutinized based on merits, utility, repeatability in a planned and purposeful manner, and sharing experience in role modeling. It was selected as a leading industry in achieving the desired performance in terms of HSE Management System.
"Bandar Abbas Oil Refinery Company is striving to promote production quality while observing HSE regulations. It has received a pollutant-free certificate from the Department of Environment in the past," said Namva.
"Continuous production of high quality goods despite the overwhelming bottlenecks is an indicator of perseverance, knowledge, commitment and creativity on the part of the company's senior executives and personnel."
