Preparations for the construction of a second reactor at Iran's Bushehr Nuclear Power Plant have begun and the project is moving as scheduled, Rosatom CEO Sergei Kirienko said late on Friday.

"Work has already begun. Now design of the platform is underway. There is a schedule for this work and preparations are moving in strict accordance with this schedule. We are pleased by our partners' work," Kirienko said at the Eastern Economic Forum, Sputnik reported.

Bushehr's nuclear plant became operational in Iran in 2011 and reached full capacity the following year.

In 2014, Iran and Russia agreed to build two new nuclear reactors in the southern city of Bushehr, starting in the fall of 2015.

Iran and the six world powers reached a historic deal on July 14 in Vienna that would limit the Persian Gulf country’s nuclear program in return for removing sanctions on its energy and financial industries. According to Rosatom, the deal will help broaden nuclear energy cooperation between Russia and Iran.

Also in August, Rosatom-affiliated Tole Company said a new batch of nuclear fuel will be delivered to the Bushehr nuclear plant by the end of August.
