The expansion of national gas network not only generates more jobs, but also creates energy security, the managing director of National Iranian Gas Company said.

Hamidreza Araqi added that besides feeling secure about energy supply, natural gas helps the country improve health and welfare conditions, generate more jobs and increase revenues, Shana reported.

The head of NIGC noted that the use of natural gas leads to economic development and said, "A considerable number of industrial units are supplied with natural gas, which increases value added and lowers air pollution."

Araqi noted that using good quality heating equipment reduces energy consumption.

"Unfortunately, Iran is the third biggest consumer of natural gas, consuming 10 times more than Japan," he said.

"By the time other phases of South Pars Gas Field go on stream, the total volume of natural gas produced in the country will be doubled and by institutionalizing fuel conservation culture, the country can get a higher share of the international energy market."

Araqi said creativity in planning and ideation play a key role in NIGC, as it needs fresh ideas to invest in new areas.
