Naphtha was exported by Iran’s private sector for the first time, managing director of Lavan Oil Refining Co. Mohammad Ali Dadvar said.

The Persian Gulf based Lavan refinery got permission from the National Iranian Oil Refining and Distribution Company (NIORDC) to export heavy naphtha and "became the first private sector exporter of naphtha in the country," Fars news agency quoted Dadvar as saying.

Naphtha is used primarily as feedstock for producing high octane gasoline and olefins. The oil ministry previously managed naphtha exports, but Lavan's naphtha is now being traded in the energy bourse for export.

Lavan refinery has put forward a plan to the NIORDC to increase the value added of intermediate feedstock by converting feedstock, such as naphtha surplus, to petrochemicals and aromatics.
