An Omani delegation is visiting Iran to finalize the Iran-Oman subsea gas pipeline project, managing director of the National Iranian Gas Export Company said.

According to Alireza Kameli, the pipeline is divided into two phases. The first phase, which is onshore, extends for 200 km from Roudan to Kouh Mobarak, both located in Hormozgan Province in southern Iran.

The offshore phase, with the same length, extends from Kouh Mobarak to Sohar in Oman, IRNA reported on Wednesday.

An Iranian consultant has been appointed to conduct basic engineering studies and offshore assessments for laying the pipeline to transfer gas via the Persian Gulf to the sultanate.

In 2013, Iran signed a memorandum of understating to lay a subsea pipeline for gas exports to Oman within a short timeframe.

The agreement, estimated at $60 billion, calls for supplying 28 million cubic meters of natural gas per day to Oman for 15 years.
