Major overhaul and the corresponding fall in production notwithstanding, 260 million cubic meters of natural gas will be delivered to power plants everyday between June and August, the National Iranian Gas Co. dispatching manager said, Shana news agency reported Saturday.

Referring to the seasonal maintenance work at refineries, which leads to cuts in output, Manouchehr Taheri said, “The household sector consumption declines to a great extent (during the summer season) plummeting from 480 to 170 mcm per day, which explains why overhaul is normally undertaken during this time of the year.”

Power plants and reservoirs receive extra gas in summer, Taheri said, adding, “We are doing our best to keep production volumes from joint fields high so that all industrial and household needs are met” without hassles.

Underscoring the overall repairs to be carried out on pipelines and the national gas network Taheri was quoted as saying that pipelines will not need major repairs this year, yet repair jobs will start in early June.

South Pars is the world’s largest gas field, shared between Iran and Qatar, covering an area of 3,700 square kilometers of Iran’s territorial waters in the Persian Gulf. It adjoins the Arab sheikhdom’s North Field, which measures 6,000 square kilometers.
