More than 33 oil and gas wells were drilled in the first two months of the current Iranian calendar year (began March 21), drilling manager at the National Iranian Drilling Company (NIDC) was quoted by Shana news agency as saying.

From the total 33 wells, 15 were development wells, 17 workover wells and one exploration well, Mehran Makvandi said, noting the total increased by seven wells compared with the same period last year. Approximately, 65,440 meters of drilling operations were carried out in the March-May period.

The NIDC is currently responsible for drilling rigs operated by the National Iranian South Oil Company, Petroleum Engineering and Development Company (PEDEC), Iranian Offshore Oil Company and Iranian Central Oil Fields Company. The company implements projects in 10 provinces.

Drilling operations are underway in 10 provinces and stretch from Sarakhs in Khorasan Razavi Province in the northeast to central and southern regions including the South Pars gas field.

Drilling of five wells was carried out 127 days ahead of schedule, the official added. With the aim to accelerate drilling projects, the NIDC has planned to add five drilling rigs to its fleet this year to reach a total of 75 rigs, including 72 onshore and three offshore rigs.
