Upon completion of the Parsian ethane and heavy hydrocarbon production project and supplies to petrochemical and downstream industries, the value of such products will amount to two billion dollars in our national economy," Oil Minister Bijan Namdar Zangane said Friday, ISNA reported.

Currently 70 million cubic meters of gas enters Parsian refinery which is used by the national gas grid after sweetening, Zanganeh said. "As soon as this project comes on stream, 17 percent of this volume will be separated as feedstock (3.5 million tons per annum) for the petrochemical and downstream industries."

He added that out of 3.5 million tons of feedstock, ethane's share stands at 1.5 million tons which will be transferred to Firouzabad, Darab, Fasa and Estahban petrochemical units. Zanganeh said," under current conditions, the oil ministry has no plan to invest in petrochemical industries. But it is creating the necessary infrastructure to enable the private sector to invest in downstream industries and supply feedstock to the petrochemical complexes."

He hoped that the plan would come into effect within 3 years as scheduled. The Parsian project was handed over to Tadbir Energy Development Group last year after being put on hold for a while. Now it is making progress although the unsuitable land in the region has caused some difficulties for the movement of heavy vehicles, the news agency said without elaboration.
