Close to 9 billion liters of petroleum products were produced, and nearly 90 million barrels of oil processed by Tehran Oil Refinery (TOR) in the previous Iranian year (ended March 21), Shana News Agency said in a report Tuesday.

The refinery produced 8.9 billion liters of oil byproducts including gasoline, diesel fuel, kerosene, mazut and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) last year. Its gasoline and diesel output accounted for 2.7 billion and 5 billion liters respectively.

Moreover, TOR produced 739 million liters of LPG, 553 million liters of kerosene and 39 million liters of mazut in the past year, according to the report.

TOR, also known as Shahid Tondguyan Refinery, is a privately-owned complex under the supervision of the National Iranian Oil Refining and Distribution Company (NIORDC). It was established in 1968 and now has the capacity to produce 250,000 barrels of oil per day. The complex accounts for approximately 15 percent of Iran's refining capacity.

Iran holds the world’s second biggest natural gas reserves after Russia and the fourth-largest proven crude oil reserves. Furthermore, the country holds 17 percent of the world's proven gas reserves as well as more than one-third of OPEC's reserves. Iran's largest natural gas field, South Pars, is estimated to hold roughly 40 percent of Iran's gas reserves.
