The amount of precipitation in Iran from the beginning of the current water year (Sept. 23, 2022) to July 8 increased by 10% compared with the same period of the previous year.
In the nearly 10-month period, 208.4 mm of rain have been recorded across the country while the figure was 185.9 mm year-on-year, IRNA reported.
However, this year’s rainfall has decreased by 14% compared to the long-term (54 years) average of 238.2 mm of rain.
Ilam Province has had the highest amount of precipitation so far this year, as it received 541.4 mm of rain, indicating a 155% increase compared to the same period of a year ago when the western province had 212.4 mm of rain.
The province’s rainfall this year has also been 27% higher than the long-term average of 427.7 mm.
After Ilam, Khuzestan Province experienced an 80% increase in rainfall. About 411.6 mm of rain have been registered in the southwestern province so far while the figure was 228.5 mm last year.
On the other hand, Hormozgan Province has had the highest reduction in rainfall at 51%.
The amount of rain in the southern province reached 101.2 mm while the figure was 205.3 mm last year.
Iran has an arid and semi-arid climate with average rainfall reaching 250 mm, which is about one-third of the global average.
