To accelerate the development of Belal Gas Field in the Persian Gulf, Iranian Offshore Engineering and Construction Company (IOEC) is tasked with building an offshore processing platform, the company’s managing director said.
“Operations to build the four-floor deck, which weigh about 2,300 tons, are expected to be completed in three years,” Mohammad Reza Zahiri was also quoted as saying by IRNA.
Pars Oil and Gas Company, a subsidiary of the National Iranian Oil Company, signed a $500 million contract with the domestic company Petropars to develop Belal Gas Field and the latter assigned IOEC and Iran Marine Industrial Company to build the field’s platform and jacket respectively, he added.
According to Zahiri, the deck will be connected to eight wells where drilling operations at an exploratory-appraisal well are underway.
The well, expected to be 4,300 meters deep, will help locate the proven reserves of recoverable gas and oil.
NIOC’s comprehensive program in the development plan is to drill eight development, appraisal and exploratory wells.
According to the program, the drilling operations are expected to be completed within 30 months.
Belal, a joint gas field, straddles the maritime boundary between Iran and Qatar in the Persian Gulf. It is located east of the giant South Pars Gas Field, 90 km southwest of Lavan Island. The field is estimated to hold 170 billion cubic meters of gas in reserve and its proven gas condensate in place is more than 100 million barrels.
Petropars was founded in 1998 to contribute to the development of vast energy resources. It is one of the country's leading contractors of upstream oil and gas projects.
In 2021, NIOC is using nanofluids in the implementation of enhanced oil recovery methods in the Surmeh reservoir of the Belal field, which operation is the first in the country for increasing oil recovery.
After examining the feasibility of injecting nanofluids as one of the latest methods to enhance oil recovery, the knowhow for producing suitable nanoemulsions was acquired to facilitate oil recovery.
