The owners of small-scale solar power stations in the rural districts of Fars Province earned close to $1 million in 2022 by selling electricity to the regional electricity firm, the head of the provincial electricity company said.
“Rooftop photovoltaic power stations in the region generated 10,000 megawatt hours of power last year,” Hamidreza Jalayer was also quoted as saying by the Energy Ministry’s news portal.
Thanks to renewable resources, including small-scale solar power plants and large solar farms in the region, close to 27,000 MW hours of power have been produced in the southern province since 2016, which have helped owners earn around $2.5 million during the period, he added.

The ministry is obliged to pay 11 cents for each kilowatt of power.
Each 5-kW installation costs at least $5,000, a major part of which will come in the form of low-interest loans to be repaid in installments within 10 years.
According to the official, around 57 domestic firms are collaborating to supply equipment to build rooftop stations, including panels and inverters.
Close to 33 megawatts of electricity have been added to green energy production in the region over the last two years.
Jalayer said six photovoltaic power stations with an investment of $16 million became operational simultaneously in several towns in Fars Province in 2021.
The first with a capacity of 10 MW went on stream in Larestan County and cost $5 million. It will help save 6 million cubic meters of natural gas and 8,500 cubic meters of water per annum.
Costing $10 million, two projects were completed in Lamerd and Shiraz counties.
With a capacity of 20 MW, the two units will help reduce greenhouse emissions by as much as 140 tons per year.
Twelve mcm of natural gas and 17,000 cubic meters of water annually will be saved.
Referring to Torkan solar plant in Kaftarak rural district in Shiraz County, the official said, “It is a 2-MW station that cost $1 million that will save 1 mcm of gas and curb greenhouse emissions by 3,000 tons per year”.
The last two PV stations were built in Neyriz and Eqlid counties with a total capacity of 1 MW and cost $500,000.
Jalayer said close to 84 MW hours of power per day are generated from renewable energy sources in the province.
There are 10 large solar power plants, 1 wind power station, 2 hydropower plants, one biomass plant and 331 small PV stations (rooftop solar panels) in this region in south Iran.
