Upon the completion of projects to supply gas to villages in Kermanshah Province last year (March 2022-23), about 90% of rural regions in the western province are now connected to the national gas grid, the head of the provincial gas company said.
“Last year, gas was supplied to 207 villages in the province, most of which were located in border and deprived areas,” Nasser Hosseini was also quoted as saying by the Oil Ministry’s news service Shana.
“Of the total 2,562 villages in Kermanshah Province, 2,368 can be provided with gas. Currently, 2,021 villages are linked to the natural gas network,” he said.
“Projects are underway to supply gas to 215 villages this year, which will raise the rural gas supply to 96%.”
According to programs, all the urban and rural areas of Kermanshah will be connected to the gas grid by the end of the next Iranian year (March 2025).
Currently, 99.6% of the urban population and 90% of the rural population in Kermanshah have access to piped gas.
Kermanshah Province comprises 2.4% of the country's population. Of the 2 million people living in the province, 75% reside in urban areas (14 cities) and 25% dwell in rural areas.
About 3,000 industrial and production units in the province are gas-fired and plans are underway to link another 200 industrial units to the gas network.
Currently, 660,300 subscribers in the province are connected to the gas network, of which 527,660 subscribers are urbanites and 132,640 are countryfolks.
