Jam Petrochem Company Sets PE Output Record

The polyethylene unit of Jam Petrochemical Company in the port city of Asalouyeh, Bushehr Province, has set a record in producing PE in the last Iranian year ended (March 20, 2023), the head of the unit said.

"The unit produced more than 387,000 tons of PE last year, which was 87,000 tons more than the capacity initially designed for the plant," Ali Salimzadeh was also quoted as saying by ILNA.

"The unit is one of the largest polymer units in Iran, which produces different ranges of linear light and heavy polyethylene. The unit has the ability to produce more than 60 different grades with various applications,” he added.

The application of PE unit products is in packaging industries, home appliance production, textile, agricultural industries and automobile manufacturing.

“Last year, the unit produced seven types of polyethylene products, which was in line with the policy to diversify the product portfolio and meet the needs of customers,” Salimzadeh said.

JPC has also planned to further increase its output with the launch of an ABS/rubber production unit.

The unit is expected to become operational in the first half of the current Iranian year (started March 21).

The measure is in line with plans to complete the value chain of products at the complex.

Upon completion, the unit will produce 200,000 tons of acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene copolymer (ABS) as well as 60,000 tons of rubber per year.

ABS is a hard, heat-resistant engineering plastic that is widely used in housing appliances, pipe fittings and automotive interior parts.

As well as its uses in computer keyboard components and LEGO bricks, ABS is commonly used to make plastic face guards for wall sockets and protective housing for power tools.

Constructing new ethylene production units, increasing exports and producing petrochemicals with higher value-added are also on the agenda of JPC.

Currently, about 45% of Jam's products are exported to China and the remaining 55% are sold in 30 international markets, including Turkey, CIS countries, Europe, India and Africa.

JPC owns some of the largest petrochemical facilities in the southern city of Asalouyeh. It is one of the biggest producers of wide-ranging olefins in the Middle East.

JPC produces various chemical and petrochemical products, including a high density grade of polyethylene used for producing PE100 pipes that possess higher long-term strength and are used in oil, gas, water and wastewater pipeline networks.
