Gas delivery to the power plants in Gilan Province have increased by 26%, reaching 252 million cubic meters in the second month of the fall (Oct. 23-Nov. 21), compared with the same period of last year, managing director of the Gilan Gas Company said.
"Gilan’s gas consumption increased by 5% to 656 mcm in the month, which is due to the rise in the volume of gas delivered to the northern province's power plants,” Isa Jamal Nikouei was also quoted as saying by the Oil Ministry’s news agency Shana.
Referring to gas consumption in the domestic sector, he said despite the addition of about 40,000 new subscribers last year (March 2021-22), gas consumption by households declined by 6% compared to the previous year and reached 272 mcm.”
“Gas saved in the domestic sector has led to the delivery of a larger volume to the power generation sector,” he added.
In order to improve electricity supply in the province, several electricity projects with an investment of $33.3 million were launched and are expected to be completed by next summer. Among the projects, two solar power stations will be constructed in Roudbar County with an investment of $13 million, each with a capacity of 10 megawatts.
Currently, there are 12 power stations in the northern province, two of which are combined-cycle (Paresar in Rezvanshahr County and Rasht in Gilan) and five are hydroelectric (Talesh, Bijar, Tarik, Sefidroud and Loshan).
In addition, three are small-scale power plants with distributed generation systems (Gil and Caspian) and a combined heat and power (CHP) plant in Bandar Anzali Free Trade Zone.
Manjil Wind Farm is the first and largest wind power plant in Iran with a nominal capacity of 92.2 MW.
Gilan lies along the Caspian Sea in northern Iran and gets the highest annual rainfall – 4.5 times above the national and 1.2 times above the global average. This has helped the growth of lush greenery and dense forests that give the province a unique status and biodiversity.
The region is visited by millions of tourists every year.
