NIDC to Reinforce Presence in Persian Gulf Waters

The National Iranian Drilling Company plans to strengthen its presence in the Persian Gulf waters in the near future by renovating three offshore drilling rigs, managing director of the National Iranian Drilling Company said.

“NIDC currently has three drilling rigs in the Persian Gulf, which have become unproductive due to the wear and tear of equipment, hence they will be replaced with three new rigs,” Hamidreza Golpayegani was also quoted as saying by IRNA.

Speaking about the recent activities of NIDC, he said, “The company has increased the number of active drilling rigs from 56 last [fiscal] year [March 2021-22] to 64 rigs at present.”

The number of drilling rigs of the company operating across the country will reach 66 by the end of the current Iranian year (March 2023), he added.

In related news, IRNA reported that the National Iranian South Oil Company and NIDC have signed a memorandum of understanding worth $1 billion, based on which about $200 million will be allocated for the renovation of drilling rigs owned by the latter.

NIDC undertakes both offshore and onshore drilling and provides almost the entire range of drilling services needed by domestic oil and gas companies. It has drilled 124 onshore and offshore oil and gas wells over the last 12 months.

Founded in 1979, NIDC’s services include well logging, cementing and acidizing, drill stem test, well testing, training, development and general services. It also provides engineering, programming and industrial cleaning services to steam boilers, compressors, lube oil systems, water jackets, chillers and heat exchangers, as well as industrial cleaning services to oil and gas refineries.

The company has the technology to carry out drilling in deep waters and has a regional record for drilling operations at a depth of over 1,000 meters. The firm has emerged as one of the largest drilling companies in Southwest Asia.
