Amirkabir Petrochemical Company in Mahshahr, Khuzestan Province, has increased its operating income during the first five months of the current Iranian year (March 21-Aug. 22) compared with the same period of last year.
The company’s total sales of polymer products in the period have grown by 36% and 32% respectively, the Oil Ministry’s news agency Shana reported.
It has set several records in recent years in key performance indicators, including total production, production of polymers and ethylene.
The total production of Amir Kabir plant last year (March 2021-22) rose by 16% compared to the preceding year.
The production of polymer products in the plant also increased by 12% in comparison with the previous year.
The complex was also able to hold the record for the highest ethylene output (the most important feedstock for polymer units) last year and experienced a 45% increase compared to the year before.
The rise in the output led to a growth in exports and profits, despite the US sanctions.
In May 2018, the US quit the landmark 2015 nuclear deal Iran had signed with the six world powers and in November imposed a second round of sanctions, targeting the energy sector.
Amir Kabir is Iran's largest manufacturer of petrochemicals and polymers, producing a variety of polymers, including high-density polyethylene, low-density polyethylene and linear low-density polyethylene.
Its products are used to make pipes, cables, plastic bags, barrels for chemicals and food, synthetic rubber and resistant polymers.
