Gachsaran Petrochemical Plant in Kohgilouyeh-Boyerahmad Province is in its final stages of construction by Iranian experts and engineers, with help from knowledge-based companies, managing director of the National Petrochemical Company said.
“One of the most important links in the completion of the value chain in the petrochemical sector, the olefin plant is expected to start production as scheduled by the end of the current Iranian year [March 2023],” Morteza Shahmirzaei was also quoted as saying by the Oil Ministry’s news agency Shana.
Gachsaran Olefin Project seeks to provide feed for petrochemical complexes located en route to the West Ethylene Pipeline and petrochemical complexes in Dena region [the four petrochemical plants of Mamasani, Dehdasht, Boroujen and Kazeroun], he added.
The complex will receive ethane as its feedstock via pipeline from the Bidboland Gas Refinery in the Persian Gulf.
Shahmirzaei noted that the plant will have an annual production capacity of 1 million tons of ethylene and 84,000 tons of C3+.
A polyethylene production unit will also be built at the plant later.
The project is carried out by the Persian Gulf Petrochemical Industries Company and is estimated to be completed at a cost of over $1 billion.
One of the advantages of the project is that about 80% of the parts and equipment used in the plant are made by domestic manufacturers.
