Two Petrochemical Plants in Southwest Hit Production Records

Two petrochemical companies in the southwest hit production records last Iranian year (March 2021-22).

Amir Kabir Petrochemical Company in Mahshahr, Khuzestan Province, set a record in recent years in key performance indicators, including total production, production of polymer products and production of ethylene.

The total production of Amir Kabir plant last year rose by 16% compared to the preceding year, the Oil Ministry’s news agency Shana reported.

The production of polymer products in the plant also increased by 12% in comparison with the previous year.

The complex was also able to hold the record for the highest ethylene output (the most important feedstock for polymer units) last year and experienced a 45% increase compared to the year before.

The rise in the output led to a growth in exports and profits, despite the US sanctions.

In May 2018, the former US president, Donald Trump, tore up the landmark 2015 nuclear deal Iran had signed with the six world powers and in November, Washington imposed a second round of sanctions, targeting the energy sector.

Amir Kabir is Iran's largest manufacturer of petrochemicals and polymers, producing a variety of polymers, including high-density polyethylene, low-density polyethylene and linear low-density polyethylene.

Its products are used to make pipes, cables, plastic bags, barrels for chemicals and food, synthetic rubber and resistant polymers.

    Bu Ali Sina Plant

The production of Bu Ali Sina Petrochemical Company last year saw a 32% increase compared to the previous year and reached 1,890,000 tons, the caretaker the company said.

“The figure has been unprecedented in the 18-year history of the company,” Omid Azemian was also quoted as saying by Shana.

“New records were set in the production of various items like liquefied petroleum gas and benzene.”

Bu Ali Sina Petrochemical Complex is located on a 36-hectare land in the northwest of the Persian Gulf in Khuzestan province, in the special petrochemical zone.

A subsidiary of the Persian Gulf Petrochemical Industries Company, Bu Ali Sina Petrochemical Company stretches over 36 hectares on the northwestern flank of the Persian Gulf.

Founded in 1998, the company processes gas condensate as feedstock to produce various aromatic products, including 350,000 tons of light naphtha a year, most of which will be converted to LPG and C5 raffinate, 500,000 tons of heavy naphtha per year and 600,000 tons of benzene a year, for local and foreign markets.

BSPC products are sold to Bandar Imam Khomeini, Shahid Tondgouyan, Amir Kabir, Pars and Karoun petrochemical companies.

The Middle East, Southeast Asia and Europe are the main export destinations.
