Bu Ali Sina Petrochem Company’s Exports to Reach $1b by March

Exports of Bu Ali Sina Petrochemical Company in Mahshahr, Khuzestan Province, are expected to reach $1 billion by the end of the current Iranian year (March 2022), managing director of the company said.

“The exports include major products such as benzene, reformate and diesel,” the Oil Ministry’s news agency Shana also quoted Mohammad Ahmadzadeh as saying.

Speaking about the profit of the company, he said: “We anticipate a profit of about $250 million by the yearend and expect the figure to surpass $300 million next year.”

According to Ahmadzadeh, this amount of profit in one year is equivalent to a quarter of the total value of the company, which means that if this trend continues, “in the next few years, we can earn a profit equal to the amount needed for building a petrochemical complex like Bu Ali Sina”.

Referring to the company’s development plans, he said a paraxylene unit is under construction with the help of local specialists and will become operational early next year.

The products of the new unit will be used as feedstock in Shahid Tondgouyan Petrochemical Plant to produce polyethylene terephthalate [also known as PET].

Paraxylene is an aromatic hydrocarbon widely used as feedstock to produce industrial chemicals. It is produced by catalytic reformation of petroleum naphtha and used in the production of polymers and terephthalic acid for polyesters such as PET.

A subsidiary of the Persian Gulf Petrochemical Industries Company, Bu Ali Sina Petrochemical Company stretches over 36 hectares on the northwestern flank of the Persian Gulf.

Founded in 1998, the company processes gas condensate as feedstock to produce an estimated 1.75 million tons of aromatic products a year, including 350,000 tons of light naphtha, most of which will be converted to LPG and C5 raffinate, 500,000 tons of heavy naphtha and 600,000 tons of benzene, available in local and foreign markets.

BSPC products are sold to Bandar Imam Khomeini, Shahid Tondgouyan, Amir Kabir, Pars and Karoun petrochemical companies.

The Middle East, Southeast Asia and Europe are the main export destinations.
