Power plants in Markazi and Semnan provinces are adding new units to increase their electricity generation capacity and a power station in under construction in Kerman Province, managing director of Iran’s Thermal Power Plants Holding Company said.
“The executive operation of the second phase of Roudshour Power Plant in Markazi Province will resume from next week so that it will be completed by next winter,” Mohsen Tarztalab was also quoted as saying by the Energy Ministry’s news portal Paven.
The second phase includes the construction of a steam unit with a capacity of 345 megawatts to turn the conventional power station into a combined cycle one, he added.
Tarztalab noted that the efficiency of the steam section will be 57% and the plant’s conversion into a combined cycle will help save about 720 million cubic meters of gas annually.
“The first phase of the power plant with three gas units and a total capacity of 792 MW was launched in 2007,” the official said, adding that the construction of the steam unit has registered 68% progress.
The project was halted recently due to financial constraints, but the problems have been solved.
Iran’s first private power plant has been built on 50 hectares in the city of Saveh in central Markazi Province. The plant became operational in 2007.
The construction of Roudshour Combined Cycle Power Plant's steam unit was commissioned to MAPNA Group in 2017.
Semnan Power Plant
The construction of the second phase of Shahid Bakeri Power Plant in Semnan Province is expected to be completed by next summer.
The second phase includes two gas units, each with a capacity of generating 183 MW of electricity.
MAPNA Group is developing the second phase and is to use the state-of-the-art gas turbines in the units. The two advanced gas units will be equipped with E-Class MGT-70(3) gas turbines.
The group started construction operations for the power plant’s first phase in 2009 and the first unit of the power plant was synchronized to the grid the year after.
The first phase of Semnan Power Plant comprises two gas units with a capacity of 162 MW each. The plant is located 10 km from Semnan on the road to Damghan.
MAPNA Group is a conglomerate of Iranian companies involved in the development and execution of thermal and renewable power, oil and gas, railroads and other industrial projects as well as manufacture of equipment.
Power Station for Steel Plant
Paven has also reported that the gas unit of Boutia Steel Power Plant in Kerman Province is under construction and will be connected to the grid in spring.
Located in Boutia Iranian Steel Company, the plant will have a gas unit of 310 MW and 140 MW steam unit, and the latter will be launched later. Tarztalab said the construction of the gas unit has registered 78% progress.
According to the official, half of the electricity generated by the power station will be used by the steel plant and half will be sent to the network.
Boutia Iranian Steel Company has been constructed on 663 hectares, 27 km west of Kerman City, the capital of the namesake province.
Tarztalab had earlier said industries can play a key role in boosting electricity output by embarking on power plant development projects.
Estimates show that Iran’s electricity consumption will be around 78,000 megawatts in the next five years, and in case the current level of electricity generation does not increase, the country will have a deficit of 18,000 MW.
