Fath-27 drilling rig has recently started drilling operations in the Sepehr and Jufair oilfields in Khuzestan Province, as the fourth rig employed in the development project of the field.
The rig, which belongs to the consortium of the National Iranian Drilling Company and Pezhvak Energy Engineering Services Company, has been in operation for 12 years and drilled 26 wells with a total length of over 77,000 meters in various fields, the Oil Ministry’s news agency Shana reported.
Sepehr and Jufair fields were discovered in 1976. They are located 60 km southwest of Ahvaz, capital city of the southwestern province.
NIDC and PECO have signed an agreement worth $60 million to cooperate on the field’s developmental project.
According to the contract, NIDC will both drill developmental wells mentioned in the contract and offer the defined integrated auxiliary services in the project.
Sepehr field's reserves are estimated at 5.4 billion barrels of oil. Its potential production is 450 million barrels. Jufair Oilfield is estimated to hold 4.4 billion barrels of oil. The fields’ potential production reaches 390 million barrels.
Some 50,000 barrels of oil are currently extracted from the two fields on a daily basis.
Work is underway to increase production by 120,000 barrels of oil in Sepehr and Jufair oilfields.
