Amir Kabir Petrochemical Plant in Mahshahr, Khuzestan Province, has increased its output and exports in the first five months of the current Iranian year (March 21-Aug. 22) compared with the same period of last year.
With the production of 678,828 tons of various hydrocarbon products during the period, the company hit a record 20% increase compared with the first five months of last year, the Oil Ministry’s news agency Shana reported.
Polyethylene and ethylene accounted for a majority of total output with 303,108 tons and 208,314 tons respectively.
The rise in output also led to a growth in exports, despite the prohibitive US sanctions.
Polymer exports also increased by 26% and the company sold 188,543 tons of various products in the international markets during the period.
In May 2018, the former US president, Donald Trump, quit the landmark 2015 nuclear deal Iran had signed with the six world powers, including the US, and in November, Washington imposed a second round of sanctions that targeted key economic sectors.
Amir Kabir is Iran's largest manufacturer of petrochemicals and polymers, producing high-density polyethylene, low-density polyethylene and linear low-density polyethylene.
Its products are used to make pipes, cables, plastic bags, barrels for chemicals and food, synthetic rubber and resistant polymers.
