The National Iranian Drilling Company drilled 34 oil and gas wells in onshore and offshore fields during the first five months of the current Iranian year (March 21-Aug. 22), the deputy head of NIDC said.
“Of the total wells, four were development ones, two were exploration wells and 28 wells were repaired,” the National Iranian Oil Company’s website also quoted Masoud Afshar as saying.
“The company drilled up to 27,000 meters during this period, while 21 light and heavy drilling rigs are currently operating in oil and gas fields across the country.”
NIDC owns 72 offshore and onshore drilling rigs. It draws on the capacity and potential of domestic manufacturers in indigenizing parts and equipment for the key oil and gas sector.
The company accounts for 65% of the domestic drilling market share by drilling more than 4,500 onshore and offshore oil and gas wells in four decades.
It plays a key role in drilling exploratory and development wells in Azadegan Oilfield in Khuzestan Province near the Iraqi border and in South Pars, the world's largest gas field shared by Iran and Qatar in the Persian Gulf.
NIDC, a subsidiary of National Iranian Oil Company, has undertaken drilling work in Yaran, Yadavaran and Darkhovein oilfields in Khuzestan, and Azar Oilfield in Ilam Province, among others.
