The supply of fuels to ships in the first ten months of the current Iranian year (ends March 20) exceeded three million tons, Shana news agency reported Monday.
The 10-month bunkering included around 3 million tons of fuel oil and 107,000 tons of gasoil, marketing director of the National Iranian Oil Products Distribution Company (NIOPDC) said. “The value of fuel oil bunkering in this period reached $1.35 million, showing 30 percent increase compared with the same period last year, Mohammad Mazlumi stated.
He added that the 10-month gasoil bunkering was valued at almost $100 million, also indicating 30 percent growth when compared to the same period in the previous year.
NIOPDC plans to set an annual bunkering (of fuel oil and gasoil) record of 4 million tons this year. “Despite the recent plunge in prices of oil and its derivatives, we are determined to reach that goal,” Mazlumi asserted.
Currently, seven Iranian companies carry out bunkering services in the Persian Gulf. Bushehr and Bandar Abbas account for the lion’s share of Iran’s fuel oil and gasoil supply to large cargo vessels and ferries.
Since 2006, the NIOPDC has been conducting bunkering services, with the help of the private sector, in several southern ports and cargo terminals, including Kharg, Qeshm, Assalouyeh, and Chabahar. The company has thereby increased Iran’s share in the bunkering industry in the Persian Gulf and the Sea of Oman.
