Development programs have helped increase the storage capacity of Mahshahr Port’s Export Terminal by 50%, the head of the terminal said.
“The storage capacity has increased from 1 billion liters to 1.5 billion liters,” Hossein Alizadeh was also quoted as saying by the Oil Ministry’s news agency Shana.
“The export terminal in Mahshahr is 85 years old and was built for exporting petroleum products. It was one of the strategic ports of Iran during the 1980-88 Iraq-imposed war due to its remoteness from attacks and today it is still one of the country's important export ports,” he said.
Referring to eight active docks in the terminal, Alizadeh noted that five docks are now fully operational and handle a variety of petroleum products.
“The loading capacity of Mahshahr’s Export Terminal has tripled in the past few years, which has caused the power supply to exceed demand. As a result, vessel services have increased significantly,” he said.
“Because of the measures taken, Mahshahr Port will become one of the strategic ports of the country, as there is no such capacity in the Middle East.”
