Upgrading facilities, including Pier T (long beach container terminal), at Kharg Oil Terminal has helped raise the facility's export capacity by 70,000 barrels per day, managing director of Iran’s Oil Terminal Company (IOTC) Pirouz Mousavi said Sunday.

According to Shana news agency, the southern oil terminal, located on Kharg Island at the head of the Persian Gulf about 25 km off the coast of Iran, is now equipped with modern facilities, including docks. The project was implemented in a one-year period at a total cost of 62 billion rials ($2.25 billion).

Mousavi said by launching the new facilities, the company does no longer have to pay for delay in loading and unloading of oil tankers.  Ensuring sustainable oil exports and raising storage capacity are among the important indicators for evaluating the capabilities of an oil terminal, thus IOTC pursues these objectives seriously in a bid to improve oil export capacity, Mousavi noted.
