With the completion of 40 rural water supply projects in Markazi Province, water problems in 74 villages with 300,000 people have been resolved, managing director of the provincial Water and Wastewater Company said.
“Out the total 1,113 villages in the province, 854 with a population of about 285,000 are covered by the Water and Wastewater Company. In short, almost 86% of the villages now have access to potable water, which is higher than the national average (70%),” Yousef Erfaninasab was quoted as saying by the Energy Ministry news portal Paven.
The projects included construction of 46 storage tanks, 20 pumping stations and 234 km of transmission lines, Erfaninasab added. “Thirty villages have water quality problems and to address the issue 30 desalination plants have been purchased”.
Of the total 3 billion cubic meters of renewable water consumed in the central province, 91% is used by farmers, 5% for drinking and 4% in industry.
Natural renewable water resources are the total amount of a region’s water resources, both surface water and groundwater, which is generated through the hydrological cycle. The amount is computed on a yearly basis.
Surface water comprises 700 million cubic meters of the renewable water in the province and 2.3 bcm comes from groundwater resources.
