The ICT minister has called on the officials in charge of Iran Post Company to adopt measures to broaden the business and increase revenues, through the expansion of services as the top authority sees more room for variety in the sector.
Mohammad Javad Azari-Jahromi held a meeting with post officials, in which he underlined the need to form a think tank to explore ways of recruiting youngsters as well as veterans to devise a plan for overhauling the Post Company, wrote the ministry's website.
Azari-Jahromi relished the idea of bringing diversity to the range of services already offered by the state-run firm, while enhancing the efficiency of the procedures to enable the company to compete with private-sector rivals.
He pointed to the fact that two certificates have been issued for private firms so far to operate in the field. However, Iran Post Company is still weighing on the entire burdensome task; for instance, the National Postal Service under the state company is still the exclusive delivery system for national ID cards.
In order to boost the Post Company's revenues, "we should spur an upswing in shipping rates all across the country, and to achieve the goal, it is imperative to expand the diversity of services offered," the ICT minister was quoted as saying.
Hailing two state-owned projects run by the firm namely development and maintenance of the National Realtors Database System named Simac, and Geocoded National Address File project, he noted that the ventures are seen as components of the e-government infrastructure.
