    Sharif University Holds Job Fair

The Sharif University of Technology held a job fair over the weekened at Goftogu Park north of Tehran.

According to the events website, 55 companies participated in the job fair including several major local startups.

Some of the startups were package delivery service Alopeyk, online payment service Asan Pardakht, food delivery service Reyhoon and major ride-hailing firms Snapp and Tap30.

The university initiated the fair in 2011 to help connect students to industry and introduce them to skills needed to improve their chances of finding work as joblessness continues to rise, especially among the educated youth.

This is the first time the fair was not hosted at the university campus as a gesture to broaden its appeal and range among the general public.

One of the event’s organizers Asal Hamidi says that since the event was not held at the university, it attracted people from different walks of life, contrary to the previous events that were exclusive to students.

Hamidi said “During this round 38,000 resumes were submitted to the companies” by people seeking employment.

Furthermore, an online system had been created for participants to send their resumes before the event. Applicants could also visit company booths during the event and the potential employers conducted job interviews at the fair.

Workshops were also held on a variety of subjects such as job interview skills and challenges people face in the workplace.

The event was sponsored by Snapp, Golrang Industrial Group, System Group, Vada, and Irancell. The next job fair is expected in September.
