Game-maker Fanafzar has launched an online game store ‘Hayoola’ in collaboration with Iran Computer and Video Games Foundation.
In addition to locally-developed games, modified versions of foreign games are available for download on hayoola.com, local technology website CITNA reported.
For instance, users can download games with Persian subtitles from the service.
Fanafzar chief Amir Hossein Fassihi says, “Currently, 20 games are offered on the website.”
In addition to being a for-profit enterprise, Fassihi says, “We also aim to help promote Iran’s fledgling gaming industry.”
Fassihi is of the opinion that the domestic game industry, irrespective of its high potential, is still in its infancy. “Providing proper infrastructure like effective distribution channels can help propel the sector forward.”
Over the years the quality of Iran-made games has improved, he was quoted as saying.
According to a report by the Game Foundation, Iran with a population of 80 million has an estimated 23 million gamers.
